Franz Wong first started working in gender issues in 1991 and has been a gender specialist for the last 10 years. He has provided policy and technical advice, training and capacity building support for several development organizations and projects in a variety of social and economic development areas including education, sustainable livelihoods, small and micro enterprise development, NGO capacity development, child rights and the elimination of violence against women. In addition, he has managed numerous projects and programmes supported by various development agencies including CIDA, UNESCO, UNICEF, UNFPA and UNDP.

 

Franz has worked as a gender advisor for the Royal Tropical Institute (KIT) in Amsterdam, was the Regional Gender Advisor for Oxfam GB and a Gender Advisor and Associate Director for 12 years with the Foundation for International Training, based in Canada.  Franz has experience working in South and South East Asia, the Middle East and East and Southern Africa.  He undertook his Master's in Gender and Participatory Communications in Palestine and currently is pursuing a PhD focusing on gender mainstreaming in development NGOs.

 

He has co-authored Gender Training Facilitator’s Guide (2009. Copenhagen: Gendernet) and Politics of the Possible: Experiences from the Field in Gender Mainstreaming and Organizational Change (2006. Amsterdam: KIT and Oxfam GB) and co-edited Revisiting Gender Training: the making and remaking of gender knowledge (2007. Amsterdam: KIT and Oxfam GB)
