Mathieu GuĂ©rin is an Associate Professor in Modern History at the University of Caen Basse-Normandie, France. He holds a PhD in Comparative Dynamics of Developing Societies from Paris 7-Denis Diderot University. His dissertation, entitled White Helmets on the Grass Plateau. The Pacification of the Highlanders of South-Indochina, 1860-1940, explores the History of the Highlanders of Cambodia during the colonial period. He lived four years inCambodia (1997-2001) where he taught French and History at the Faculty of Economics, the Royal University of Phnom Penh and at the French Cultural Centre.

 

He co-authored a book published by IRASEC for which he conducted surveys in the Cambodian Highlands : From Montagnards to Ethnic Minorities, What National Integration for the Highlanders of Vietnam and Cambodia? He also authored several articles published in International Journals. His researches mostly focus on the history of the relation of Ethnic Minorities with the CentralState and on the history of the people of rural areas in Southeast Asia, mainly in Cambodia.
